How CheckoutFlare works with Shopify and Whop (setup walkthrough)

What happens between a shopper clicking Check out and money landing in your Whop balance, and the exact steps to set it all up in about 20 to 30 minutes.

· 7 min read

CheckoutFlare sits between two things you already know or will soon know: your Shopify store and your Whop account. This guide explains what each one does, what happens when a shopper buys, and how to set everything up.

The big picture

  • Shopify stays your store: products, theme, apps, orders and fulfilment.
  • CheckoutFlare provides the checkout page. It lives on your own domain, such as checkout.yourstore.com.
  • Whop takes the payment, through your own Whop account. Your money goes straight to your Whop balance.

A small script on your store sends shoppers from “Check out” to your CheckoutFlare checkout. After they pay, the paid order is created back in Shopify, so apps such as DSers, AutoDS and CJ see a normal paid order.

What happens when someone buys

  1. A shopper adds products to the cart and presses Check out.
  2. The script sends them to your branded checkout. If our checkout doesn’t respond in time, they continue on Shopify’s checkout instead, so you never lose the sale.
  3. We recalculate the cart on our server, so prices can’t be tampered with in the browser.
  4. The shopper pays with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or another method that Whop enables for your account.
  5. Whop confirms the payment to CheckoutFlare, and we create the paid order in Shopify with the customer, items, address and totals.
  6. When you fulfil the order in Shopify, the tracking number is synced to Whop. Refunds work in both directions.

What you need before you start

  • A Shopify store with your products and your policy pages in place. The Store Readiness Check shows you what is missing.
  • About 30 minutes.
  • A Whop account. Use the one you have, or sign up free at whop.com. Whop’s own verification and payout details are handled inside Whop.
  • A CheckoutFlare plan (Starter is $0 and instant) when you go live. We never save your card.

Step 1: Connect Shopify

Shopify no longer lets store owners create old-style custom apps, so each store owner creates a small app in their own Shopify developer dashboard. It sounds technical, but our wizard handles the hard part:

  1. Enter your yourstore.myshopify.com address.
  2. Follow the wizard. Each field has a Copy button for the app name, URLs and permissions, with a screenshot beside each step.
  3. Paste the Client ID and Secret that Shopify gives you back into CheckoutFlare.
  4. We check the connection, confirm the permissions were granted and name any missing one with the exact fix.

Because the app belongs to your own Shopify organisation, nobody else’s changes can switch your store off. If you get stuck, ask for “do it for me” setup help.

Step 2: Connect payments

  1. In Whop, open whop.com/dashboard/developer, go to Account API Keys and click Create. Name it “CheckoutFlare” and choose the Admin role. Copy the key. Whop shows it only once.
  2. In CheckoutFlare, go to Settings, then Payments, and paste the key.
  3. We check the key, read your Whop account name and set up the Whop webhook for you. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes.

Whop’s own verification and payouts are done inside Whop, and approval and timelines are Whop’s. We never see your ID or bank details. You can disconnect in CheckoutFlare, or revoke the key in Whop, at any time.

Step 3: Design your checkout

  1. Pick a template and import your logo and colours.
  2. Click anything on the page to edit it. Switch between desktop and phone.
  3. Turn on the features you want: delivery-date estimates, an order bump, a post-purchase upsell, discount codes and shipping rules.
  4. Add your ad pixels. Meta Pixel with server-side Conversions API is supported, plus the TikTok pixel and Google Analytics 4. Server-side events for TikTok and Google Analytics, and Google Ads conversion tracking, are coming soon.

Step 4: Add your domain

Add a checkout CNAME record at your domain provider, pointing where the wizard tells you. SSL is issued automatically. Using your own domain keeps shoppers in your brand and lets Apple Pay and Google Pay work smoothly.

Step 5: Place a test order

Run a test order from your live store. The checks confirm that the script is detected, the domain resolves, the order reached Shopify and the tracking sync works. Fix anything red before moving on. Building and testing are free.

Step 6: Go live safely

To go live, you need Shopify and Whop connected, a Store Readiness Check score of 70 or more, a published checkout design, shipping rates, and a plan that takes payments (Starter or higher). Then don’t switch everything at once. Start a traffic split, for example 10% of shoppers to CheckoutFlare and 90% to Shopify checkout. Compare results. If anything looks wrong, turn it off in one click, and if our checkout ever fails to respond, shoppers automatically fall back to Shopify.

What it costs

Building is free. Starter is $0 a month plus 1% of each order, and your first $1,000 of sales on each store are fee-free. We add up our fees into one bill each month, and you pay it on our Whop checkout page. Whop charges its own card-processing fees to your Whop account (for example 2.7% + $0.30 for domestic cards, set by Whop, so check your dashboard). See the pricing page for a calculator.

Good to know

  • Shop Pay isn’t available on this checkout because it is Shopify’s own wallet. Apple Pay and Google Pay are.
  • Some “Buy it now” buttons rendered by Shopify may still open Shopify’s checkout.
  • Don’t uninstall the Shopify app or change its secret while you’re live, or orders may not be recorded. We’d switch you back to Shopify checkout and tell you.
  • You can switch back to Shopify checkout whenever you like.

Troubleshooting

  • “Embed app” was left on or “Release” wasn’t clicked: the wizard detects this and tells you which setting to change.
  • Wrong store address: check the .myshopify.com name, not your public domain.
  • Domain not resolving yet: DNS changes can take a while. Recheck in a few minutes.
